Some airlines allow you to get "lifetime" status by meeting certain qualifications.

Which airlines have these programs and what are the qualifications?

American Airlines

  • Gold - 1 Million miles accrued using any mechanism
  • Platinum - 2 million miles accrued using any mechanism

It's important to note that you can accrue eligible miles any way, including credit card purchases, bonus miles, flights and so on. You don't need "buts in seats" miles.

When you get to 1 million miles here is what happens: http://www.shahine.com/omar/1000000Miles.aspx

and here is what you get in your 1 million mile kit: http://www.shahine.com/omar/AmericanAirlinesMillionMileKit.aspx

If you enroll in Delta SkyMiles you can get:

Members who reach one million Medallion Qualification Miles are currently awarded complimentary annual Silver Medallion status.

Members who reach two million Medallion Qualification Miles are currently awarded complimentary annual Gold Medallion status.

Members who reach four million plus Medallion Qualification Miles are currently awarded complimentary annual Platinum Medallion status.

Every time you reach a new level of Million Miler status you will have the opportunity to choose an exclusive gift by Hartmann™ as a token of our appreciation.

Note: Delta's MQM miles are basically only when you take a flight. Credit card and other bonus miles don't count. :(
